Longton Exchange’s Win a Shop campaign supports local businesses

Discover how Toolbox Marketing assisted Longton Exchange in finding a new independent tenant with their innovative ‘Win a Shop’ campaign.

Challenge
Longton Exchange, in Stoke on Trent, was eager to fill its new Arts and Cultural Quarter with a diverse mix of independent retailers. The goal was to support a local business by offering them the chance to ‘Win a Shop’ rent-free for a year.

Solution
Toolbox Marketing launched an online competition where the community were invited to nominate their favourite independent businesses via a form on the Longton Exchange website.

To make an impact within the centre, Toolbox Marketing installed a vinyl on the store window which included a QR code which once scanned took shoppers directly to the nomination form on the website. To further amplify this campaign, Toolbox Marketing shared PR with the local press and arranged live radio interviews for Centre Manager, Chris Ward to promote the campaign.

Results

  • The campaign increased website visitors by +324.6% compared to the previous period.
  • Over 20 independent businesses were nominated to win the shop.
  • The campaign generated over £600 of positive PR coverage.
  • So Very Dog has now employed 2 new members of staff to help run the shop.

The campaign’s winner, So Very Dog, has been successfully trading at the centre since August 2023. Sarah, the owner, shared her excitement:

“Winning the shop has been a dream come true. As a small business owner this is an amazing opportunity to grow and expand in an area where significant improvements are being made. Chris and the team have been incredibly supportive, and I believe it won’t be long until the remaining vacant units are filled.”
