CHALLENGE:

Castle Quay set out to reimagine Mental Health Awareness Week in a way that would not only raise awareness but also offer practical, accessible ways for the Banbury community to connect, reflect and grow. The goal was to reduce stigma around mental health while increasing footfall, social media engagement and community involvement through an inclusive, emotionally resonant campaign.

SOLUTION:

Castle Quay launched the “Blooming with Positivity” campaign – a multifaceted initiative that integrated gardening, creativity and conversation to make mental health support approachable and engaging. Through collaborative events with local schools, businesses, charities and wellness organisations, the centre turned a traditional awareness week into a thriving community movement rooted in growth, connection, and joy.

 

HOW WE DID IT:

  • Seed Swap Activation – Guests exchanged seeds and received compost and radish microgreen kits, creating a hands-on connection to growth and self-care.
  • Retailer Collaboration – Coffee#1 hosted a “Cake and Coffee” Chatty Café session, distributing free treats and promoting informal mental health dialogue.
  • Wellbeing Workshops – Interactive sessions like the Mindful Creativity Workshop and Feelings & Emotions Workshop helped families explore emotional literacy together.
  • Community Partnerships – From Bridge Street Community Garden to Banbury Therapy Group and the Ramblers, local groups enriched the campaign with expert insight and real-time support.
  • Social Engagement – A vibrant digital strategy and press coverage drove visibility and encouraged community-wide participation.

RESULTS:

The campaign significantly exceeded expectations across digital engagement and community reach:

  • +76.4% increase in social media engagements (target exceeded by 282%)
  • +42% increase in impressions (target exceeded by 40%)
  • +32.2% increase in followers (target exceeded by 222%)
  • 5 pieces of press coverage secured
  • 50 complimentary cakes distributed at Coffee#1 – all claimed
  • Widespread community feedback expressing appreciation, emotional resonance, and eagerness for future events
